Ecoterrorism + Beer Brewing

Nerd Nite returns in November with a juxtaposition of dark and light — kick off the night exploring ecoterrorism topics and cap it off with a journey through beer brewing. Be there and be square.

Presentation #1: Ecoterrorists: Should we stop them or should we join them? presented by Beth Chalecki, associate professor of political science and director of the sustainability minor at UNO.

Presentation #2: From Pots to Pints, A Tale of Blood, Sweat, and Beers, presented by Mackenzie Lander, a history major and home brewer with more than a decade of experience in brewing beer.

Middle Ages Mythbusters + Blackness in Nerd Culture

The September Nerd Nite is a combination of looking back and looking forward from innovation in the Middle Ages to building new communities with nerd culture (and Black representation in nerd spaces).

Presentation #1: Debunking myths about science during the Middle Ages, presented by Steven Condrey.

Presentation #2: The Intersection of Blackness and Nerdiness, presented by Jade Rogers, founder of the House of Afros, Capes, and Curls.

Flower Power and French Revolution Fashion

For the August event, we encourage you to embrace the topics and dress the part! Try your hand at French Revolution fashion or feature the late 1960s/early70s with some bell bottoms and bright florals. Be there and be square.

Presentation #1: Shorts to Die for: Losing your head for fashion during the French Revolution, presented by Jennifer Pool, a theatre artist with an MFA in costume design and armchair historian.

Presentation #2: Experiencing Woodstock, presented by Tony Gardner, a retired history teacher and 1969 Woodstock alumnus!

Presentation #1: An Introduction to Metadesign with Josh Hall, a product designer and design philosopher who’s mostly worked in the software industry.

Presentation #2: How to Listen to Jazz (and Like It) with Jace Gatzemeyer, a jazz enthusiast and multi-passionate person who also holds a PhD in American Literature.

Flying drones & Cinco de Mayo Omaha!

Presentation #1: Regulations on Drones and Air Spaces with LaResha Swiney, a licensed certified drone pilot who works in the tech industry.

Presentation #2: History of Cinco de Mayo Omaha with Anna Hernandez, whose family was one of the first Mexican American families to come to Omaha after the Mexican Revolution. She’s been involved with Cinco de Mayo Omaha since childhood and is writing a book on the Mexican American experience in Omaha.
